Looks good & functional.

Are you going to add an underscorer to help direct the deformation?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

That's the next stage Wicky, I should of done it before I welded it up. I'm also looking to strap the tops to prevent spreading.

I'm not too keen on having a dent but it's box & it has to happen.

The weathers poor today so I've been rebuilding the Tracker thread & putting the pictures back on.

Thanks for the comments guys

More goodies arrived today

Very happy indeed with the purchase, there are a few marks but I feel quite lucky to get one tbh.

Two would be nice, but it is 50mm inlet which will match the standard 50mm 2-1 collector pipe when it gets chopped.

I've also got some spare stainless 50mm tube & bends left over from the inlet manifold to fabricate a link pipe

+1

Well put Al, I couldn't have said it better myself.

It's always very inspiring to read your posts Phil, and even better having the photo's to go with them

Thanks for re-adding the missing photo's too :D

Thanks for the positive comments guys, appreciated

As for the pictures Chris, what a pain in the butt tbh. Photobucket

Anyway, back in the shed this morning & decided to bend stuff.

Image

The first try was without an under scorer to help direct the deformation when bending.

I knew it wouldn't work properly but I wanted to see what the outcome would be & here's the result.

I'll also add it was a bugger to remove & there was defiantly a change in force required as it was fifty pencing the box.

Image

The under scorer should of been sorted when I was fabricating the dolly but I forgot about it & Wicky kindly pointed it out to me. Thanks again Wicky. Btw, any luck finding the schematics for the Union Carbide welder

So I used a 2.5mm arc welding rod stripped of its flux & tacked it on both ends.

Its not permanent, it was an experiment to see what was the minimal height I could get away with, as I'm not too keen on an internal dent.

If you look close it has minimal signs of internal deformation, but you can see some slight fifty pencing on the inside.

I think this is the minimum under scorer height I can hope to get away with.

The second try was with an under scorer to help direct the deformation when bending.

I will need to do a 180° rear hoop, for that I think I'll have to strap the arms because of the outward forces.

But for now I'm happy :D

I'm amazed at how much difference an under scorer makes

Yesterday, after a good think I popped down the shed & started on the rear subframe.

This was the criteria.

1/ It will support my fat ass (strong).

2/ It supports the seat unit tidily (no wobbles) & fits cleanly to the tank to keep the horizontal tank/seat line of the original tracker.

3/ Minimal frame to be seen.

4/ Able to have room to hold the electronics discreetly. Battery, cdi, ignitor, rectifier, etc.

It took all day & what I finished with wasn't my ideal design but here it is anyway.

This is only the top hoop, once this is in place the lowers should be easy to fabricate to it..

Cheers guys, I wasn't expecting to end up with this subframe shape & I'm not too sure if I like it either tbh.

Initially I was thinking of two straight bars like most bikes firing backwards from the spine. I tried it, but the curved seat looked like crap balanced on top.

The fibreglass seat dictated the swoopy frame shape. The seat looks great on the frame, but it looks as if I've bent it already when the seats removed

When finished, I'm hoping there'll be enough room to fit all the electrics under the seat, 2-3 bolts & I'm in.

Also, the conventional front tank mounting hasn't been welded in place yet. Currently the rear underside of the tank is touching the subframe & is dictating the height of the seat subframe & front tank mounting point.

Next job is to set up the bike outside to get the correct tank/seat lines. Hopefully to a horizontal'ish line similar to the original tracker bike.
