More CCT pink spots....any definitive answers

Post by fourelms »

I've done a search on this and there seem to be conflicting views, just wondering if any further news on the subject of colours on the CCT spots?

My CCT's have a pink spot, the rear looks slightly very slightly discoloured the front still looks brand new, even the gasket looks new....but I'm sure they couldn't have been done since 2014.

There is a note in the service book regarding CCT's back in 2009 at 18k, think I'll fit new ones regardless.

any help welcome.

Any help...Yeah fit manuals.

The paint spots are just different batches, no moddifcations at all to stop them failing, can happen at any time, any milage...

No conflicting views on this one. The colour of the spots make no difference at all accept for colour. The design of the CCT is exactly the same. Either a later production or they changed the colour of the spot. Either way they can fail at any time without warning.

do the stopper mod then you can keep the pretty pink dots and also be sure that your engine is protected if the spring were to fail.

and as a Brucie bonus, you can also then add data to the original question you asked when you get to 100,000 miles and still didn't have a failure.

and as a Scotty bonus, it will cost you £0

thanks guys, I met a guy at a local pub bike night this week with a VTR whom fitted a pair of those cheap Ebay jobs, £30 each with no problems at all. Although if you buy direct from China they are £22 each being the cheap guy I am. £5 for a bit of Bond-It Blue medium thread lock and Roberto's ya uncle.

Interestingly I changed the CTT on a Yamaha TTR a few weeks back, I had an APE and a cheap £22 Ebay one side by side, they looked, felt, weighed and even smelt (!) the exactly the same, down to the O ring dimensions... I mean it ain't rocket science (or what ever the new cutting edge science is now) to make a bolt and lock nut, ohh before anyone asks yes, it came with the gasket too.

I've ordered two off Smart-Price/Value/Farm Stores/Essentials £22 tight wad CTT's and keep you posted as to how things go. The TTR one took 10 days to come. Choice of colours red or blue.

The main thing is that you have done something about the CCT's  I think the difference with the Chinese ones is a cheaper grade metal along with cheap tacky mounting bolts, but you can always put the original bolts back in.
