Re: Replacment side stand

Post by Metalmad18 »

I stumped up for the daytona 600 sidestand. It is not a direct replacement at all. For a start there is a second bracket sticking out to the left that touches the engine, meaning you cant bolt it on all the way. Secondly, if you have stock placement of exhaust, the sidestand hits the down pipes when it is up. On top of this i cant figure out where the sidestand switch should go!

On another note. I have a daytona 600 sidestand for sale ;) ;) ;)

Which is the best replacement for the stock stand without modifying? So far ive read cbr900 cbr1000 and blackbird. I really fancied the triumph replacement but that either doesnt seem to work or i've bought the wrong one. However it did match the years stated here. Hey ho. Any advice welcome.

Brilliant! Do you mind me asking what year?

How much longer is it than standard?

All years but although it will bolt straight on you have to modify the 'prong' as it is far too short as it comes. In the pic above the loop is the modifeid 'prong'. Switch fit's on the same, so use the Storm one. If you get a BB stand with a switch fitted then the cable is a fair bit longer, will fit same plug but just excess cable...

I know it sounds lazy but i would rather not ''mod' anything. Looking for more of a plug and play solution here.

I hear certain years of cbr900 fit. Is this true?

2004-2006 CBR1000, I put one on my VTR, plug and play. You need to take a file to the bracket otherwise the stand won't extend forwards enough to be safe but that is easy.

in an interesting swerve of opinions I have found a 2002 cbr1100xx side stand for 15 quid on eBay. looks ok, side stand switch is identical and it looks in good condition. I'll report back when it arrives and has been fitted. (I may use the storm bracket)

anyone heard of any problems with this stand?

That'll be a Blackbrid stand then...Straight bolt on but as I already said the foot prong is about an inch long as it comes...when the stand is up that will be hidden under you link pipe...thats the bit you will have to mod...

It looks in very good nick. I'll chuck it on without the mod for now to see how bad it is. If i can get by without i wont bother modding. Triumphs are like it too sometimes. Losing the stand under the exhaust and clever hook of the toe can flick it out if mastered right.

Just to add about the CBR1000 sidestand, the prong on this also a bit shorter than stock, but it sticks out about 1.5cm under the pipe, and I have no difficulty using my heel to extend it.

Put the new stand on from the blackbird and it fits perfectly on the new bracket. No filing needed at it sits great. however there is a slight flex where the stand arm fits inside the bracket, much like the original storm one. I thought about putting a washer in the gap but it is too small to fit.

I'd really like the stand to feel solid and stable with none of that 'flex' (hopefully you know what I'm talking about)

any ideas, anyone done anything that makes it feel really solid. the length is perfect otherwise.

p.s I have 2 vtr sidestands and a daytona 600 stand for sale if anyone knows anyone that might like one.
