If you don't know when they were last balanced they will need doing.
Depends on how often you ride, mileage, whether you ride all year round etc.

About every six months?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Cheers.
It's only done 17000 and has just been serviced .don't think they balanced the carbs. Perhaps I should get it done anyway.uts not running bad just for my own peace of mind.

Tick over rough, lumpy or cutting out?
If not, I wouldn't bother. Tell that piece of your mind to forget it and just go out and enjoy it

+1 my bike runs sweet as a nut goes like the clappers and returns better than average (reported ) mpg.

ive had it for 13,000 miles and haven't adjusted the carbs yet. my understanding of carbs is that you get em set right then leave them alone ? ?

Unless changes have been made.

As Tony and Pete say

Carbs do go out of sync slightly, naturally over time because of wear and tear, vibrations etc and will generally get checked/adjusted during a full service. A balance or technically, syncing the carbs should also be done any time the carbs are removed, changes have been made etc. These bikes in particular seem to be quite touchy when it comes to carb syncing and small amounts make a difference. Two great big carbs on a great big lump makes things temperamental.

I feel that folk sometimes focus/pay to much attention to syncing carbs and see it is as some amazing fix for something else that could be going on. It's no big deal and should be seen as the icing on the cake so to speak. What I'm trying to say is that there is no point in doing a carb sync if fuelling and other things are not correct. This is not to say that it's not worth checking as it's simple enough and costs nothing to rule out.

Be aware that carb syncing also has an affect of the TPS too.
