brake bobbins

Post by bazzashadow »

someone has told me that the front brake disc bobbins should move (rotate) slightly
my question is

how easy should they move(best way to check without damaging them) and what is the best way to free them up if they don`t move?
thanks in advance

Some threaded bar, 2 large flat washers and 4 nuts to act as lock nuts on each side of the bobbin. Washers will grip the bobbin and they should turn.

Done a set on Sunday.

An old Banjo bolt, 14mm nut, a cordless impact driver & lashings of brake cleaner.

It's amazing the crap that comes out !

I did 2 sets last week.

One had quite wide holes through middle of bobbins.

Other was really narrow. All I could get through was a small bolt with 8mm head and 8mm nut. Had to use a few washers to size them up on each side.

I use the 8mm socket on a drill and spin them up for 5 to 10 secs while spraying brake cleaner at them.
