Tank slapper when i take my hands off the bars
Hey guys,
Had a bit of an interesting moment today. Took both hands off the bars to do up a zip and was great with a tankslapper which started out as a small wobble and grew quickly. I repeated this to check its not the road surface and sure enough it started wobbling away again.
Anybody any ideas what could cause this? Front end is totally stock. Was thinking possibly a warped disc or similar? Its had new pads recently but cant see how these would cause the issue unless one was dragging.
Any advice beforr i start pulling bits apart would be great.
Thanks, Toby

I had a similar issue with an FZR750 a few years back. I loosened the front end off and reset it and it sorted it. Worth a try as a cheap starter.

Hi Toby,
I would start with checking tyre pressures, also making sure the tyres are seated properly on the wheel rims (an even line all the way around) followed by wheel bearings, swingarm bearings and head bearings. If the tyres are getting on they may not be at their best now, also if the bike has been stood for a long time without being used stood on the side stand, you could have a flat area on the tyre,
Chris.

I've had this on the stag run and need to investigate why .
Tyres are new and fitted right . All bearing are good .
So later I'll reset the front end like kevs said and see how I get on .

Hey All,
Thanks for all the help and advice, will reset front end and check bits youve mentioned this week. Have to admit it happens only around 50% of the time so redialling the suspension does make total sense.
Will post results shortly

Toby, a Damaged rim is what has been setting my bike off, so check that when you check the tyre is beaded.
Lloydie, yours could be do to the effect of the topbox on the balance, or was it without the wheels bin fitted?

Good shout amc.. Didnt think of that! Will check this too.
Re: top box balancing, having rode as a courier on the storm and all sorts of bikes never seen the box causing a tank slapper. However badly loaded paniers deffo make an impact.

I don't think you'll fully get rid of yours until you get the front end raised up, I've found if you lower the storm too much at the front they tend to be unstable, Steering damper will help though.lloydie wrote:I've had this on the stag run and need to investigate why .

Need a side mount as me yoke and risers take up the space for a top mount damper :-(
