Opinions on Rear Wheel Hugger

Post by thunderbolt »

I am heading off for a holiday to England soon, mainly Nth Devon but going to Bristol and Birmingham as well. There is a place down in Somerset somewhere, Taunton I think. I believe they are the agent for Rear Wheel huggers for Pyramid and thought I might bring one home with me to save on postage/freight costs.

They have them for £82, they are $440 in Australia (made from carbon fiber though).

What are people's opinions on them.

Are they worthwhile?

Are they worth the money, etc.?

What is their main benefit?

We could start a poll and see how many people are using them?

Thanks all.

My rear hugger is Pyramid. Hasn't chipped at all from anything after at least 3000 miles, does it's job and looks sexy too

Mine has one on too - stops all the road crud being flung over the rear shock and up under the bike.

A definite YES from me to get one....would have bought one if the bike didn't have one fitted

Here's mine:

I have one and one main thing you notice compared to cheaper brands is the Pyramid design uses the original chain guard so you can fit without taking the rear exhaust hanger off, cheaper ones come with the chain guard integrated, therefore you have to remove the hanger to get it in.

Also cheaper ones are fiberglass and gel-coat that chips, mine is formed plastic.

Mines been on 10 yrs+ fibre glass with Red gell coat to match bike. They are,or at that time, designed for your original chain guard to be fitted over the top of the Pyramid integral one. Think that makes sence :biggrin. Point being lol I think the integral one on the Pyramid is too short and doesn't cover the rear sprocket enough to satisfy the MOT Tester.

YES if you dont run one your a fool in my opinion,

even moto gp use them and they use bigger ones than us, weather and track depending they sometimes use longer ones

This was on Nicky Haydens RCV Image

Stones flying up can ruin a shock very quickly, then there is all the crud flying as well

i have one on my gixxer and i also cut up a rally flap for the inside too to protect the linkage and bottom of the shock, mine shock and link still looks like new because of it

Choose the right hugger and they blend well

my one on my old Storm

On my dads blade, lucky it was on as some big stone got flung up and literally smashed a chunk out of his, that could have been the shock or back of the bike that took the impact had it not been the hugger, got him a replacement hugger for 20 quid

Also i would fit a fender extender too to protect the downpipes and front of the engine

just fitted one to my gsxr but also had them on the storm and the blade has a carbon one on it also as of last year

Yours will be a Harris hugger Ted as it's the Anniversary bike. I have a Harris hugger too.

A definite yes from me on getting a hugger, they serve a purpose and do their job well. Not the easiest thing to transport on a plane though but at least carbon is light

I also rate the Pyramid hugger. The only downside I've found in mine is a slight cracking where the tiny chain guard part attaches to the hugger part. Not really a big problem when fitted, as that part is covered by the original Honda chain guard. I imagine that area must be a stressed point. Even so I have had other makes, for me this is by far the best.

You can see and read about my Pyramid hugger respray (only for colour change) here:-
