My mate bought one at the bike show, i'll try and find out for you, it was about £100 and works by gps.
imho if you already have a gps like tom tom or quest, or are thinking of buying one and the maps can be upgraded to show speed cameras then, i'd get the gps.

My mate seems to be getting on fine with his inforad, it isn't a speed camera detector, it only uses gps to tell you your position in relation to a camera, it warns you when you are approaching a static camera.

it wires into the bike easily and the only things you have to do are position the warning light where you can see it, and put the gps reciever where it can get a signal from the satelites, this might be the hard bit on a storm with bits of bodywork, fairings etc getting in the way, and you'd want it out of sight to a degree.

the light is green all the time, except when you approach a camera, then it starts to flash, then i think it changes to red once you are even nearer a camera location.

not sure how easy it is to upgrade the software to the newest camera locations, he's only just bought a pc and doesn't have t'internet yet, but i'll let you know if i find out some time soon.

cheers Kev,

Have just emailed datatool to see if you could fit a 'turn alert' to it to give an audible alert as well

i think he's had no probs with it at all, seems to be able to update it ok, he doesn't do a lot of miles away from home so i can't tell you how it is in areas he doesn't know, but he says it works fine and gives plenty of warning.

i'll ask him for an update report next time i speak to him.

got one fitted last week and so far it seems fine. Updates ok and warns you ok (a few false alarms though). Still think it needs an audible alarm all the same.

I might be wrong but i think people with the units can enter positions that they have seen the police sitting doing speed traps, onto the web site, if more than 3 are reported for the same site, then it is updated as a point to watch out for. the false alarms could have been popular plod look out positions.
