Re: I just signed this petition
Afternoon all,
As you all know I'm a great advocate of MAG, well have to be, being a deputy Rep and Region membership officer.
Before anyone says anything, Yes I signed it as well but.
I wish to put a point to everyone, Signing e-petitions is great, but writing a letter is better, when a petition gets handed into the relevant MP all he see is a document with say 1000 signatures, if you write a letter to either your local MP or a specific MP, they are duty bound to read it, more letters the more notice they may take, where as a petition is just a group of signatures and normally is filled away.
I had a discussion with the south east deputy region rep, yesterday all about e-petitions and letters, this meeting was after meeting with the New Kent Chief Constable and getting some points across to the Police.
We both feel that a petition is good but 2 pages of signatures compared to a pile of say 2000 letters, can you see the point I'm trying to make.
I'm not diminishing Petitions they have their place, I hope everyone can understand the point I'm trying to make.

Re: I just signed this petition
You have a good point there and letters being more direct might have more of an impact. But correct me if I'm wrong but I thought official petitions like this, once they get so many signatures (can't remember the number) they are obliged to bring it up for discussion in Parliament.I wish to put a point to everyone, Signing e-petitions is great, but writing a letter is better, when a petition gets handed into the relevant MP all he see is a document with say 1000 signatures
My worry is that there are so many petitions floating around for this that and the other and people often sign them wily nilly without thinking about what they are signing just because it's been passed on by a friend or whatever, a kind of chain letter so to speak. So what will happen is that eventually petitions become the norm and wont have as much clout.
Either way good news on the lost appeal and it seems justice of some sort may be had.

It won't give her the chance she might have had if he'd stopped but glad his appeal has been turned down. RIP Jade x
