Anyone know of an available reliable mechanicin the hereford area to have a look at my top-end?
i recently purchased a W reg firestorm from ebay, the seller said that it had developed a rattle on the top end, and so decided to strip it, with a view to repairing it himself, but quickly lost interest. from the looks of it he didnt get very far past taking the fairing off, before parking it in his garage, can anyone give me a rough estimate on what you would charge to carry out repairs?

Hi there & welcome. First off read the knowledge base on the CCT's, decide on which way you want to go, manuals or the Bazza stopper mod then ask as many questions as you want to get a clear understanding on how to do it. Its not rocket science & anybody that can wield a spanner can do it. If you are still unsure ask a local owner to drop by to assist.
Re: hereford/gloucester mechanics?
Bazza's are not stop mods, they are Honda auto's converted to manuals.or the Bazza stopper mod
If you have a rattle and suspect CCT problems then it best to not ride the bike and get these changed ASAP.
CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!
Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)
You can either go for the stop mod http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416
Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here

excellent lads, cheers ill give it a bash
Re: hereford/gloucester mechanics?
Greetings - could be that the CCT has already failed so you'll need to find that out - most usually the front one - check the timing to see if it has jumped a cog or three over the cam chain sprockets and as already mentioned don't start it as that can cause more damage.rattle on the top end, and so decided to strip it, with a view to repairing it himself
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: hereford/gloucester mechanics?
So on inspection this morning, i looked at the front cams, as described in the cct link, that i found that instead of my cams pointing up and away one is pointing straight up, the other is up and away
also the front cct had been removed and chain is totally slack, i cant confirm fro seller what the score is, he just said he tried and gave up, dont think he ran it like that though!
Anyone on here fancy earning a few £££ put the fire back in my storm? Can deliver the bike anywhere in 50m radius of Ledbury.......

Re: hereford/gloucester mechanics?
If you want to drop it off to me I'll do it for £120 plus the parts- its a full day's work, assuming that the inlet valves are bent and the head needs to come off.
I looked at coming to you, but it is a 3 hours drive, and six hours driving won't allow enough time to get the job completed.
But van it over and leave it with me and you can ride it away the following weekend.
I have the necessary parts in stock, valves, shims and a head gasket, and could fit Bazza converted ccts while I'm there- he charges £40 a set, exchange.
I'm near as dammit J3 on the M25, Sevenoaks, Kent.
And the money goes into the engine development fund.
Any use?

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
