30k Servicing

Post by snakebitey »

Hi all.

I got my paws on a storm last year and it's been a fantastic bike (since replacing the CCTs), but it's coming up to 30k miles and has a dubious service history.

I've replaced the filters, fluids and plugs, and take good care of it day-to-day.

I'm looking at doing a good overhaul during the winter, so what should I be looking at replacing / doing?
And what should I be checking just in case?

Thanks :)
Working manual CCTs thanks to the wonderful folks of this forum :)

I would remove swing arm and check to pro link joints are not dry as one joint sits close to rear header and can dry out.

Off the top of my head

Rebuild brakes and seals and lube sliders.
Inspect and grease up shock suspension linkages.
Inspect and grease under the rubber hood on the starter motor connection bolt.
clean & protect electrical connections.

and anything you have doubts about in the service schedule from the Service Manual in the Workshop knowledgebase > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=31

And I always thought oil was every 4000, not 8000...Learn something new every day.
Still going to stick to 4000 though.

Really 8O I remember buying a gallon of oil for under £5. £30-£40 is a piss take just like the price of fuel.

Well a gallon of Castrol admittedly with filter as well is going to be the best part of £30.

And that's the cheap Castrol. I just spent £33 on Motol oil and filter.

It's a lot cheaper than bloomin' fully synth 2-stroke, which my last bike consumed as if it was going out of fashion!

I get a nice warm feeling when I change the oil with quality stuff like Castrol, usually because I forget to tighten the drain plug!
