flatbar builds

Post by callam_nffc »

So chaps can someone point me in the direction of build threads (ive seen amcqs) and places to buy top yokes for flat bars?

am I right in thinking you can fit renthal ultralow bars with something like these http://www.topyokes.com/conversion/197, without chopping the fairing up?
I dont know what that place is like pricewise but doesnt seem cheap

anything else id need? Ive already got braided goodridge hoses so lengths not an issue

Have a look at the Road Sport bars, aka Flat Bars. Theres a pic of them fitted to a storm on google images. Look good.

I think you have to plan to cut the fairing to get any reasonable rise on the bars, if you try and stay too low you will lose the benifit of doing the work. if done well you cant see it is missing, and it will look fine if you convert it back to clipons

only other thing that needs modified is the wires to the horn, they need toi be 2" longer

The only thing with cutting the fairing is, you loose the rounded lip, so if you want it to look completely original, you would have to rebuild the lip with filler and spray it in to match.

The only concerns I have for cutting the fairing, is my non-exisrent artistic skills haha

what set up did you run again al? Im guessing the low renthals dont give much benefit then?

I have the ultra low bend renthals, and 1" risers. there is a true flat bar that would be lower that that.

I just cut the faring in a straight line and used the bit that came off the 1st cut to act as a template for the other side........simples.

I can post a photo of teh bit that was cut off so you can get an idea how much / little is removed

As for those spacers, why not just move your clipons up the fork legs and save money

Ahh so its not like you need to work in a bodyshop to do it lol

Did you buy or mod a yoke al?

I think I will enjoy riding it more too, as no matter how hard I try, I just put too much weight on my forearms with the current set up, especially two up at slow speed

Just noticed that cnc set is 10% of if you pay via bacs, making it 112.50 which isnt too bad.

but ill still keep researching yokes and scouting ebay

I modded a spare top yoke, but I started with the wrong type of risers so made it difficult for my self!

If you get angled low rise clamps you can esyly make your own

I did see a guy selling bars and some riser plates on e bay and he simply drilled his yoke and bolted up through with m10 bolts then fitted Renthals. would that work or maybe 2 " longer arms!!!
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
