shock re-working

Post by callam_nffc »

after my previous post about struggling to get my knee down/side stand being a bit high

I've found my answer in my receipts....

the wombles shock is 30mm lower and is built for an 11 stone rider!

now then, can I get this rebuilt? anyone any ideas on price? I might just give it a couple of months and buy a complete different unit with remote adjuster if its silly money to have it rebuilt

I would just be picking up a bog standard one off the bay if money is tight.

Is there any indication on the shock who the maker is? If so then contact them to see if they rebuild it your weight/style, or contact any local suspension shop to see what they suggest. (i.e. http://www.tprperformance.co.uk )

In the meantime you could get a cheapy standard rear shock to tide you over, and to save your bike from the pain of toppling over till you get properly sorted.

certainly was buddy. what you said plus the fact it seemed to wallow a bit yesterday two-up made me dig the receipts out and check :)

Anyone any idea how theyre lowered? is it just a shorter stroke on the shock or does it have a different linkage to lower it?

hoping i can just get the shock rebuilt and fit a different linkage :)

As far as I know Hagon build the shocks shorter to order, best to give them a ring to see if they can modify it back to standard length and respring it for you. Hagons are a budget shock but still should be better than the standard shock. Might cost you a few quid if they'll do it, if not then i'm sure someone on here will have a std shock, they don't go for much.

Take some pictures of your linkage, should be able to tell if it's original.

Might be a totally different setup but my tzr u can raise or lowered the suspension by using different length linkages not sure on the firestorm setup but could just be as simple as changing them.

Not as simple as dogbones on the firestorm, you can only lower a bit by linkage plates as the bottom suspension strut gets in the way, same goes if you make a shorter strut, the bottom of the shock is fairly close which limits the amount it can be lowered.

That looks to be all standard to me so i'd say it's just lowered by the shorter shock.

It will be a shorter shock as that is what the Hagon receipt says, so you need to talk to them to see if it can be fixed otherwise you will be better using a standard Honda one (with a spacer) And now you know how light the last owner was you might also need stiffer fork springs as Roger will have fitted linear springs specifically for his weight.
