Bridgestone 012 or 020's???

Post by Gavin »

I'm sure some one will be able to advise, is there a big difference between the 2 types of tyre, road holding, longevity etc. I used to run 020's on my last bike, CBR1000F, and fancy putting similar on the Storm. Not sure what is on the Storm at the moment, I think they are dunlop's unfortuneatly i am having an enforced separation, working out in West Africa, 35deg and wet, roll on 3 weeks. :mad2

012s worked great for me wet or dry roads. I squared the rear off doing CBT and DAS instructing. I now run an 012 front and 020 rear for milage reasons.

Since putting the 012 020 mix on the storm I have not noticed any lack of grip wet or dry from the rear and the bike was fine at a track day at Brands.

I HATED THE 204 DUNLOPS THE BIKE CAME WITH BIG TIME

Hope my observations help

im with paul on the dunlops, i had them for a few miles and it was like riding on ice! im now running 010's and wouldnt go back, the grip is incredable, even in the wet, loads of confidence gains! Although i get around 4k from a rear if im lucky. I think thats why paul and co run the 020s rear!

I've still got the Dunlops and noticed the rear locking up a few times :? Is this the tyre or me?

If I've got a fairly new front (Dunlop) and a ok rear 8O, any advice on what I should change to? I don't commute or do track days, just potter around at weekends.

Could I keep the dunlop on the front and go for a bridgestone on the rear until I'm ready for a new front?

I did think mixing might be a no no. I presume the number indicates compound........ 12 being soft and sticky but not much wear, 20 being harder, less sticky but you get more miles out of it. :?

Looking at their website, http://194.39.141.68/articles.asp?id=52035
looks like the 014 is slightly more 'race' orientated than the 010/012 and the 020 is sport touring. Kaz, that means you are allowed to go faster :D :D

maybe check out bridgestone's web site...see what they say?
NO.

012 replace 010.
014 are a later tyre. These are all 'sports' tyres.
The 020 are 'sport touring' tyres

Got 010 front, 020 rear. Theory is - better wear at the back and better turn in at the front. Seems to work OK for me.

012 front, 020 back seems to be the obvious choice then now.

For my two pennith worth, I have Michelin Pilot Sports on at present (although the rear is more racing slick than tyre !!, after 2- 2.5k miles). Not overly convinced of their capabilities in the wet but absolutely brillant in the dry.
Am replacing with BT010'a all round very soon.

We shall see if than can handle my svlte 17 stone knee down escapades !!

I though you "ladeez" always knew more than us men ?? :? , after all we are but mere males.

Scott sitting in corner with severe brain ache while trying to string more than two words into a sentance.

I have secured 010's no problem at all, but may now look at 014's.

Scott.

anyway, the last time i tried to get 010's (yes I know they are a very popular tyre) my local dealers couldn't get hold of any, but they did tell me they were being phased out, thats why I ended up with 014's.

*Kaz goes to sit in a corner and hide and will talk about tyres no more :( *
