How to upgrade from a 12ah battery?

Post by Image »

I've got the standard 12ah battery and alls ok but occasionally needs a bump start. Bikes been tested and alternator and R/R all as should be. I've heard that some storm owners fit an upgraded battery that's better than 12ah. Any info on this? What ah? Name? Price? Where would I get one?

Check out the Motobatt yellow ones with four posts, you can get them from Busters or on Ebay.
Code (from memory, so check first) for an uprated one is YTX14-bs.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

If you search a thread on "occasional misfire' i posted up all the bigger sizes that will fit, upto 18ah

You just need to leave the battery cover off as they are a bit taller

Of course they're heavier as you go up in size.

Been looking at this one (link below). Should I get it? Will it fit the storm?

Try a gel-type battery, such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dynavolt-MG12 ... 4842dc68d1 - (note, this may not be the correct part number for a 'Storm, I'm going from memory and it's hazy :P )

My old lead-acid battery started to fail - it would only hold enough charge for 1 or 2 start cycles, after that it was dead. Then it got worse and wouldn't charge at all, even on a battery charger overnight etc etc.

Lead-acid batteries don't like being sat at an angle (like in the 'Storms) as they're liquid-filled. Bought a gel-type and it's been flawless since - the idea of the gel ones is they don't have sloshy liquid inside so they perform well even at angles. They've got a bit more juice than standard batteries too :)
Working manual CCTs thanks to the wonderful folks of this forum :)

http://www.thebatteryshop.co.uk/yuasa-y ... -694-p.asp

That's what I'll get when I need a new one. Bit taller so apparently you have to 'lose' the battery cover.

But gel battery, 18Ah and Yuasa so should be all good

BTW that link was the cheapest I could find £83.36 inc. VAT and delivery.

Snakebitey, is that gel battery 18ah though? I'm tempted by the gel one but the one I linked to is 18ah and I like that.

wouldnt bother with the gel battery tbh... ive had a few and they dont hold their charge as good as a lead acid variant.
