Hmmm. Been there, done that. Tell me how much enjoyment you can have when you can't tell whether that white stuff on the road is snow or salt and you need either heated grips or handlebar muffs (or both) to make a winter journey tolerable.rob... wrote:wot he sed.

If there's a decent day or two during winter when the roads have been miraculously washed clean of salt and the temperature is heading towards double figures then yes, I'll be up for it. Trouble is, you normally only get one or two of those per winter.

I can't believe I'm hearing this. A bit of cold, salt or rain is not gonna hurt. In fact a bit of snow is not gonna hurt either. The only thing that should stop a biker being able to ride is if the roads have not bean cleared and there is mounds of snow or a ton of ice everywhere. But then it's easy for me to say that, as it's my only form of transport. If I had a cage, there would be days where I just couldn't be bothered and drive. And if there was that much snow or ice I wouldn't drive either.

Yes, but what's it not going to hurt? I know Hondas have better build quality than most, but road salt will eat away at any metal surfaces unless it's washed off pronto. The only stuff I'm aware of that will actually stop road salt in its tracks is ACF-50, and it's a real faff applying the stuff top to bottom on the bike.
I admit I'm speaking from the position of not needing to use the bike to get to work. I can walk to work 3 days a week, and use the van the other two days. If your bike is your daily transport, then ignore everything I've said.
