reminds me of the good ol' 1980's, when pretty much every pub had a sandwich board outside, or a big sign in the window saying "no bikers".

So these poor souls can die for our country but they cant be served in a bar. Its disgusting.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

I am afraid it was ever thus-

by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

The owner of the bar, Mr Brown, said: "I can only apologise again to the family and anybody else who was upset during the funeral service.

"Just that I'm sorry and that it wouldn't have happened if we had been aware of the funeral at the rear of Brown's, in the cathedral."

Cpl Thacker's widow says she has accepted the apology.

The widower of the poor man that lost his life can accept the apology was genuine so move on and drop it, pisses me off all this boycott this sh1t, as said they was not made aware of the funeral, policy is policy, if they had been made aware things would have been different.
If people jump on it and read into it wrong then this could have disastrous effects for the owner and his family and those directly affected who work their loss of business = loss of job's

I'm not surprised after having all that lot tattooed on his back! :D

I can't quite see what the funeral had to do with whether or not they were barred from the pub. Do we allow discrimination in this country or not? The answer is no, we don't and rightly so.

Apparently theres no way they couldnt have known there was a funeral service going on behind them.

And according to some people that know that pub and the other pubs, the guy is an a$$ who gets off throwing people out, and also think hes only apologising because it went this far.

Tell me though why would you not let soldiers in uniform into a pub?.

Soldiers turned away from pub at funeral

This is a local pub here .
And the consensus is he will be boycotted . Every other pub welcomes in service men and women in or out of uniform . And a free drink is waiting on the bar buy the time you get there .
The funeral was all over the local news up to and on the day . There was no was he didn't know it was going on .
I haven't and never will go in to browns .

Not just the case of Browns, but how "we" treat the members of our armed forces in general. Remember a few months ago when servicemen and women were advised not to go out in uniform as it made them targets for abuse and assault? 8O
Good enough to fight, and in some cases sadly die, for us but not good enough to walk amongst us and drink with us?........ :evil:
I`ll stop now as my blood is beginning to boil........

I think the people they were refering to avoid wearing uniform around were far left wing people and muslims who will abuse servicemen for fighting in the Afghanistan and iraq.

And then your always going to get the nobs who want to fight " someone ", when I was a President in a Bike club, we always had these kind of idiots trying to fight us.

Just read on the BBC web news that they made the decision to shut today, Armed Forces Day.

In a statement on its website Browns Independent Bar said it would close over the weekend claiming it had been "reliably informed" of a possible risk.

The bar's website said: "We do not wish to cause any further distress to the family and friends of the late Corporal Michael Thacker and it is our heartfelt wish that Armed Forces Day should not be overshadowed by protest due to our ill judged actions."
