No.
Tried this ages ago, it runs like a not very good running thing.

There's not enough clearance under the tank for anything like decent airflow.
Try making several little cones out of plasticine, spraying them with WD40 so that they won't stick, place them on the top surface of the airbox lid then put the tank on.
When you take it off, you'll see how much the cones are compressed, and can measure the clearance at various points.

I've posted my latest airbox mod in a separate thread, might be relevant to this discussion.

aside from the fact that you will be effectively lengthening the intake to about 2 feet to make the engine work, its going to have to try dragging about 6 cubic feet in when the air flow isnt fast enough

im sure to overcome this the snorkel will be left in place wth a thin membrane covering the inside of the snorkel like a one way valve so it closes off when its pressurised
