Tick-Over Screw

Post by Image »

New to V-Twins. Where is the tick-over screw on my VTR1000 Firestorm? It's currently ticking over at 1,300 revs and I want to bring it down to 1,000 at tick-over.

The throttle stop screw / idle set is near the coolant reservoir tank.

Download the text searchable PDF VTR service manual and search through it for: idle

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

some people set it a bit high to save that embarrising moment at the lights, whan your storm has a 'cough' and stalls. :problem:
No I can't spell.

Better set high due to cough stall problems

+2.
Setting it slightly higher also helps it to react better when downshifting several gears at higher revs.
Less chance of locking up the rear.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

downside of setting the idle high = higher temps when sat in traffic & lights etc = the fan works harder.
slightly higher fuel consumption.
but the benefits outweigh the above.
i have mine set at 1700ish.
less engine braking, better take-off, no coughs, better pipebangs
