Dash lighting

Post by Steve6088 »

I was out last night and noticed that the top part of the rpm dial has gone dark on my bike. Not important just a bit annoying.

I am presuming a bulb has gone. Does anyone know what bulb to use and the basic procedure for replacing it? The Haynes manual is a bit vague here.

Cheers

In the Haynes manual - (17) Electrical System 9-13 - Instrument and Warning light bulbs / replacement (Bottom right hand corner) which refers to (15) 9-10 Instrument Cluster / Removal & installation.

bulbs = 9-2 Electrical System - instrument lights

or download the searchable Honda VTR Service Manual in PDF

they are the medium size, think 5/7mm, capless bulbs, 1.2 watt. unbolt clocks, pull out holders, replace bulbs and refit.

Thank you very much. Are they 5 or 7mm then? Should these ones linked do the job?

An interesting idea to use coloured bulbs.

second ones could be them, need to have a gander at the ones you take out, the smaller ones fall out, has to be a good fit in holder.

lol. I'd hunt you down for that £3.97 if they didn't fit!

This topic has already been covered sort of.

Probably easiest to take the bulb out and go shopping with it or try those L.E.D ones.

from memory, when i replaced mine they gave me one that where to narrow, had to get some that looked similar but a little larger, there was 3 sizes to choose and the middle size was the one I went for. The 2 you show are 5mm but the 2nd one has a larger bulb head which was what came out, I will have a look tomorrow after-noon after work.

T10 sounds familiar, 10mm base narrow head, where the 501 are wide head.
