hello everyone

Post by denisblackvtr »

Just a quick line to introduce myself. My name is Den (Denis) and i live in north tyneside. I have had 3 vtr's in the past and hopefully coming back onto one very soon. The storm i'm looking at has 35000 miles and was wondering if this considered high miles. It is a 1998 in black. Cheers in advance. Den :)

Welcome to the forum Denis. Hope you manage to purchase another VTR. I do'nt think that milage is alot if it's been looked after. Have seen them for sale with a hell of alot more miles than that :biggrin

welcome to the Forum, sounds like you will know a bit about VTR's anyway, but go by the condition, and your instinct about the owners [level of care, mechanical knowledge, reciepts etc]. those more than milage would be the factors which I would base my decision on.

Good luck with the purchase

Ask the owner to do a compression test, then beat them down on the price when the front one seems low.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for the welcome and replies folks. So is low compression on the front cylinder a common thing? If so what is the usual culprit and the usual fix? Oh and the bike is mint and the dealer is replacing the cct's before i pay for it.

Welcome aboard Dennis

I wouldn't consider 35,000 mls to be on the high side for a Firestorm because these engines are not really that over worked when being ridden as they are not that highly tuned, but you can pick up lower mileage ones if you look around.

Good luck with it, keep us posted.

Chris.

Ah, well.
At least it'll come with free bar-end tassles and matching hand-stitched leather saddlebags and fork toolroll.

Come to think of it, why aren't big cruisers called destroyers or battleships?
