Weekend warning for scottish storms!

Post by Stormtrooper »

Edited from a local bike club web site,

From the Central Scotland Police website :

Central Scotland Police are stepping up a road safety campaign for
bikers, Officers are mounting a special operation on
May 9 at Tyndrum in conjunction with Strathclyde Police and Northern
Constabulary.

During the operation the officers will be checking for bikers
travelling at high speed, riding in an inappropriate manner and also
checking for illegal fittings to bikes such as small registration
plates fitted for the purpose of reducing the chances of being
identified. This offence had previously been dealt with through the
Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme, where offenders are given the
opportunity to rectify the offence within 21 days to avoid
prosecution. However this process was not working and policy was
changed to allow police officers to issue £30 fixed penalty tickets.
The minimum size for figures on motorcycle registration plates 64mm
tall and 44mm wide.

Checks will also be made with regards to stolen bikes and equipment
and for those already convicted of road traffic offences.
Central Scotland Police covers several hundred square miles of rural
area stretching from Strathblane to Tyndrum which includes some of
the most popular motorcycling routes in the central belt of Scotland.

Sergeant Gordon McClure from the Callander command area said: "We
welcome all responsible motorcyclists and other road users.
Unfortunately we have had to deal with more than our fair share of
injury and fatal motorcycle road crashes in recent years. We have
also had an increase in the numbers of motorcyclists travelling at
high speeds and riding in an inappropriate manner and we are keen to
get the safety message out there in an effort to reduce accidents. We
will do this using both education and enforcement."

Sergeant McClure added: "We appreciate the majority of motorcyclists
in our area act in a responsible law abiding manner and it is
the 'minority' that spoil it for the majority. It is this 'minority'
that we will target in terms of law enforcement.

Our aim is to make the
community as safe as possible and the message is clear - if you
choose to break the law then you will be dealt with accordingly."

Well I know where i wont be this weekend!!!
dont say you havent been warned!!!

Thanks for the info regarding that Stormtrooper.

I heard a couple of weeks ago that the local bobbies (Northern constabulary) were planning the same thing.

Noticed in my local paper yesterday that the feds in Fife caught a tin box driver at over 150mph whilst the driver was using a mobile phone.

Cheers
