Replacing value guide seals

Post by freeridenick »

What are folks thoughts on replacement? I've got a set of heads for an engine rebuild and I'm not sure whether they need the seals replacing. The heads haven't been on an engine for a few years - they were the ones from my bust engine that I replaced with the stg1 ones.
I don't remember that engine using oil but the valves had a sticky film on the neck; shoulder; transition area, whatever it's called. I'm wondering whether that's from oil leaking when the engine was running or just oil that's leaked down the seal during storage. If it's the former then I'd replace but the latter should just be a case of cleaning and reassembly, right?

For the small cost, I'd do it. You can also refresh the valve seats.

I think I'll start hunting for the part numbers on some US sites.

Wemoto are showing Genuine Honda Part for £7.31 each including vat. Although I thought exhaust and inlet would be the same seals, however according to Ron Ayres they show two different part numbers, so be aware and double check yourself if you decide to purchase some:-

Who wanted £22+ each :?: Another quick search, I see Fowler's are selling them for £9.17 each including vat,

Chris.

I'm pleased for you that was all it was Nick :D
I know you can come across silly prices for Japanese spares, but that price (£22+ each) did seem like a pi$$ take.

I was trying to help, then it looked like I'd made matters worse for you
I'm glad that wasn't the case,

Chris.
