Finished ! RC51 complete gear shafts & RC51 stator flywheel, took it for my first blast up the hills today ..... awesome !
RC51 stator is 1 kg lighter than the Firestorm, bolted straight in.
With the gearbox l used the Firestorm clutch, l had to run a 3mm spacer under the original clutch hub nut & spacer, and grind 1mm off the clutch end of the RC51 mainshaft so the pressure plate does not bottom-out on it. Kept the original Firestorm shift forks.
I usually run 15/43 gearing, will go to 15/44 now :-)
Took one day to strip it down, one day to rebuild it, third day test ride :-)
Got one knocking around somewhere, it's about the same size physically, and the taper and fitment will be the same.
Lighter? Certainly, but not sure how much.
Next time I'm in the stock shed I'll dig it out and weigh it.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
You can't just get one gear made larger to gear-up first, the whole shaft and the mating gear, that would cost much more than l paid (about 190 pounds landed in Oz), plus who knows what the quality of the work will be?
The flywheel is 1kg lighter than the Firestorm item.
I spent many hours on Partzilla before ordering both Firestorm and RC51 items from around the world, so l could spend many more hours measuring before tearing my own bike down.
