I did a carb synch earlier and thought this time I'd do a bit of looking at how the gauges behave when opening the throttle etc. and what actual figure of cm Hg the reading was, and refer to some of the info online about what some of these figures mean.
Mine sit steadily at 26 cm Hg at idle, but everything I've read said normal figures at idle for a healthy engine are 17 to 21 in Hg (43 to 53 cm Hg) i.e.more or less twice this figure.
Is this because the normal figure for most cars (which I guess most of the web pages about this topic are talking about) is higher, or do I have a problem?

Re: Vacuum gauge readings
It doesn't matter, all that counts is to get them to settle after a blip of the throttle with tick over turned up to around 2000 to 2500.
The actual measurement in hg is irrelevant, it is a balance between the carbs, not tuning the vacuum level.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
