Electrical burning on the right hand side?

Post by DazB »

Hi all.

Just started the bike up this morning to go to work and I notice electrical burning coming from the right side under the seat! Looks like it’s coming from a block on the side under the rear side faring. Can anyone shed some light on what this is or what I can do?

HELP!

Thanks

D

Reg/Rec most likley.

Dont ride again till sorted...

Seat off, tail fairing off...

Std reg/rec is a black rectangle about 2'' long with a white conector block, 3 yellow wires, 1 red, 1 green.

Chances are the reg/rec has failed & the block has burnt...

You need a replacement unit & possibly the block as well...

Go for an upgrade do a search on here for 'Mossfet' ...

Also pull your battery out it may have been over charged & swollen up...

Thanks Mac. Just come back in from the garage. You are correct it is that and it’s melted the block too.

I’ll look at the upgrade.

Thanks again dude

Thanks for the mossfet idea Mac, but Ive decided to direct replace.

I'm short of time and money, and Silvia (the bike) is my only form of transport, so a genuine Honda replacement is on its way, along with a new plug. Got them both for just over £70, which I thought wasn't bad. I should be able to fit real quick. I'll upgrade next time round. ;)

I'll test the battery, maybe put it of a charge if needed. Sounds like a good thing to do.

Good read. I’ve more to check by the looks of it. I can see why it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

everything above is correct but an alternative, cheaper solution is to get one off a Honda cb 125

Wicky linked me to one about 8 years ago which is still going strong, I cant remember the specific model but I think they are more widely available and deffo cheaper. get one with fins and make sure your earth is good
