Can You Fit SP1/2 Headers To A VTR1000F

Post by kenmoore »

I bought a complete Micron Race system for the VTR, second hand and tatty.

I only wanted the down pipes as they are 51mm where the link pipes to the cans would be.

The system I have at the moment has 45 mm link pipes so there is a big gain with these pipes. They run seperate to each other unlike the standard header system so some mucking about with jetting and mixtures will more than likely be necessary.

I have a Gunson Colour Tune to help with the mixtures.

I will post some pics however, If anyone on here has experience with this system please feel free to advise !

Cheers From Down Under

Not sure what kind of gain is expected. I don´t see the point in changing the pipes for larger diameter, stock pipes are working really well even with stage1 engine. There can be minor gain in top peak power figure, but major loss through rev range.

Only options available in full systems are moriwaki and akrapovic.

Mainly doing this just for the sake of it.

I can go back to the standard headers if there are issues.

I must be bored !

Well,

Here is what I started with .

Bought these pipes and cans from a wrecker in Western Australia. As you can see the cans are rough so I set about adapting the cans that I had currently fitted to my bike .

I was surprised when I ended up with this.

I have now finished the exhaust wrap and cleaned everything up.

They are mounted really solid and have a bark like a rabid dog.

Not obnoxiously loud but different.

I am not sure about the look but it is growing on me.

I was surprised that they are "Shotgun"'and would have preferred one either side.

This is a full 2" system and the pipes are seperate.

I have ridden it over one of my favourite mountain roads and it feels stronger.

Still have to fiddle with the carbs and will do that on the weekend.

Dyno figures before & after?

Dyno time here in Oz is outrageous!

I tend to spend the money and time on my bike.

I do have a fairly good butt Dyno and it is telling me that there is an improved response from the engine.

No stumbles, just good linear torque right through to the redline and the front end is getting lighter under hard acceleration.

On the basis of that I believe that there is an improvement and I am happy.

I might be looking for a steering damper when I get it dialled in.

I am yet to do the mixtures etc but am happy with the change so far.

I have just retired as of Friday and might take it to a Dyno to do the AFRs.

Still undecided about the look but a better set of cans is in order for sure.

I found my ass dyno quite misleading in comparison with true dyno or afr reading, but not telling you are wrong. I like the look, these triangle cans fit shotgun setup.

Well here is the end product, or should I say almost the end product as the bracketry is only temporary.

It allows me to ride and enjoy the sound. One of my riding buddies commented that it sounded like it should.

Not sure about the look but it works well.

I intend to fab some hangers made out of round solid steel tube with mounting bushes . This will take some time.

Will post pics when done, don't hold your breath though.

Thanks Vara,

My skills are not up to your level but I will attempt the hangers myself.

I will try and get a sound clip up !

i've always liked the shotgun look. well done getting it to work. I can only see one possible issue, what's the ground clearance like on right handers?
as the pipe sticks out further than the original?
love the look, much better with the microns....
