Valve clearances

Post by jchesshyre »

I've got the week off work so I'm finally getting round to checking my valve clearances. I've never done them since I got the bike with 30,000 on and it's now at 60,000.

So all the inlets are in spec at 0.15mm but all the exhausts are quite far out, but all by the same amount, at 0.23mm. Is this more or less normal? It seems odd to me that they're this far out but all by the same amount - whenever I've done the valves on my CB500 they've been out by random amounts. Makes me wonder whether they were set too tight last time they were done...

Intake 0.15mm (00.06in)

Exhaust 0.31mm (0.012in)

This is from the hand book

Thanks, I know what the spec is, I mean is it normal for them to be that far out but all by the same amount?

Occasionally you get odd ones out a lot further than others but most times when shims are out of spec they will all have similar clearance.
