Front fork full service/rebuild

Post by islandstorm »

Want to get my front forks serviced and rebuilt as left has started to weep oil from the seal.
Any recommendations.
I can remove the forks and send them so just need to your thoughts on who is best for this job.
Cheers guys.

top option is to send to Roger Ditchfield at revolution racing. he will service & rebuild but more importantly he will re-valve and fit new springs for your weight.... so they forks will be much better.

cost will be about £200 but contact him for more info.

but if you are decent with the spanners, then you can do 90% of it by your self, these forks are the easiest in the world to strip. then you buy new bushes and seals, new 7.5wt oil and stiffer springs.

and the cheapest option is to clean the dirt out of your seals

1) remove the top dust seal with a screw driver into the gap and pry it out
2) get a business card or thin piece of plastic down between the chrome and the oil seal and rotate it round the leg so you have wiped the full seal circumference.

note you don't even remove the forks from the bike to do the last one

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Cheers guys.
I have emailed Roger and looks like he will get the job. A bit more expensive at over 300 squids but want a top job doing.
Just got to remove them now and get them sent up!

If you have a leaking seal try using a Seal Mate. I've used mine on a couple of bikes and it worked every time. Just Google for one and they'll come up - also on Youtube.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

agree, the seal mate is the same as my last option in my first post, but its a fancy custom made bit of plastic ... I just cut a bit off a plastic milk carton because I am tight

Got a seal mate free last time I ordered an All Balls seal set.
If you need seals have a look on the Bay to see if th ed same deals is still available.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
