new blue 2005 project in lithuania engine bolt broke

Post by andrewmagas »

hi
last year had red vtr first time in my life and was so happy about but sold it just to get some woods for winter
as pretty cold up hare

so this spring was hunting one blue 2005 baby on copart.co.uk

so was lucky
just it had engine crash bars
and the accident broke the engine long mounting bolt
because of the crash bars
and doesn't look like the crash bars saved any of the fairings
or foot pegs
all broken

so now hunting
front wheel spindle
the longest engine bolt
the right rad fan motor
the left radiator
clutch lever

also need advice if that long engine bolt is broken from both sides i will be taking it off somehow
any advice on how to do it?
i think i can reach it weld something to it so i can screw it out

I think you'll have a lot of trouble getting the long engine mount bolt out if it's snapped off both ends.....
You can try heat and soaking it in penetrating oil, and trying to persuade it out with a drift.

Not sure of the best way forward with this.
Cutting it out can be done, cut neatly down the join line between the engine boss and the frame and on refitting use a shim or washer to take up the slack.
Good luck

You can use a spacer (or washers) and a length of 22mm studding and nuts either end.
It works fine.
Order one from Honda, they aren't expensive.

I have a feeling Tony means a length of 12mm studding, not 22mm :)
