Rectifier

Hi all, I broke down yesterday , electrical fault. When I have the bike running and check power going into battery it's showing 17 v's going Ito the battery . Would this be a knackered rectifier or alternator .

Yes 17v is way too much, so reg is bust. But it might have cooked the battery and some wiring as well, so check the connectors too

Brilliant ...thanks. :) Would you recommend replacing it with genuine part or is there a better alternative

Yes get a Mosfet type one. Plenty of info on here already about them use the search button...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

Yes Mosfet is what you want. Even A second hand Mosfet is better than any new shunt type !!

Mosfet R/R's are still shunt type devices. They are just a bit more efficient and reliable.

Exactly....shoving, pushing, shunting is the getting rid of excessive voltage in the form of heat. It's the circuitry inside the R/R that decides how much should be pumped back into the battery. A non MOSFET shares the circuitry components ie transistors with both the Regulator side and Rectifier side. On a MOSFET the the Rectifier and Regulator circuits are independent of each other giving more reliability.
