CCT WOES, I tried, I conquered with help

Post by AndyEames »

Hey guys, I went ahead and tried to fit manual ccts as some of you know. Unfortunately im stuck to a point where I dont want to touch it anymore. I dont know how to set the adjustment on the rear cam chain (havent got as far as the front one yet) and I dont trust what iv done. I need rescuing big time. I dont know what im doing and I just cant risk messing it up. Where do I go from here? I need somebody that knows what to do to carry on.

I know I shouldnt of attempted it. I just dont trust myself.

Good morining gentlemen,

Having slept on it, I still feel the same about it and have decided I need some help.

I know its really cheeky to ask but if anyone fancies rescuing a damsel in distress from derby then I will be more than happy to pay with money, beer or hugs.

Sorry to ask guys but I dont feel comfortable continuing. And my garage is a mess. OCD may kick in at any time.

Thanks Andy.

Hi Andy, are you following the cct guide on the forum?

If I was close I'd come and help :problem:

Can you describe the point you are currently at with the cct installation? We could talk you through it bit by bit

Hi jamoi,

I have the rear cct in and am trying to adjust the free play in the cam chain. I just dont understand how to measure it. I cant see how best to measure between 7-5mm and the vid on the guide doesnt work.

Iv just got a seed of doubt in my mind and I dont feel confident in what to do.

It's quite simple really, don't over think it.

Remove the metal cover located above the chain between the two sprockets, being careful not to drop the bolts in the engine.

Once you have access to the part of the chain between the two sprockets, apply reasonable pressure to the center of the chain (the slackest part) in an up and down motion, using a ruler measure how much the total slack movement up and down in the chain (should be 5 - 7mm total) adjust the cct to achieve the correct total slack.

That's all there is to it :)

Ok well thats what id been trying to acheive, so are you saying that from the highest point of the chain to the lowest point of the chain travel that should measure 5-7 mm? And do you rest the ruler on the piece of metal directly below the middle of the chain?

I suspected this was what to do but im unsure of my own checking and measuring, hence the doubt and the anxiety attack that it was going to turn into a fireball when I turned my back to it!

+1.

I did,nt feel confident enough to do mine either. I have not a lot of time to devote to the bike so I just thought I will balls it up somehow and it will be sitting there in bits when I could be riding it

good luck with getting it sorted however it gets done
