Petrol tank re-spray

Post by vtrjock »

Helloo.
Currently painting my missus's bike (sv) and the last bit to do is the tank.
Imagine my delight when, having removed the pre-formed tank protector, I find out that water has been sitting behind it, corroding the paint and metal beneath.
I've rubbed this area down to bare metal but there is still a very small area of very fine pitting.
Any ideas on treating this? I do not want to blast the whole tank.I have considered a very fine skin of bodywork pug.

Clean it up as best you can - use some rust remover gel in the pits, wash off well and dry . Fill pitted area with P38, flatten smooth with wet&dry then spray etchprime to cover repair area and exposed metal. Add undercoat, finish coats and lacquer. Slap another tank protector on...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

LOL you make it sound so easy :)

I would etch prime before filling and only on bare metal.

Cheers fellas. I've now gone a similar route.

This is the front section, the colour is like a metalic lilac 8O :cool2 :cool2 which goes pop! in the sunlight.
