How does that ABBA stand work then? Can't see how they raise it.
First stand pic is obvious of course with lever beam but that ABBA?
there must be a kind of long threaded bar of sorts inside the extending upright , which then screws down against a fixed stopper inside the box section, therefore raising the upper part of the lift ......or something like that
Not sure if thats the top of the threaded bar you can see in the pic,..poss for a socket to fit it .....i might be wrong though

Aha. Just read product info. Yep, deffo a screw jack by turning the nut on the top.
"The yoke front lift will raise the front of the machine by lifting vertically in the hole under the steering head. It is operated by screwing a nut at the top of the lift. This will then allow free access of the front wheel, forks etc".

That'll be basically the same idea as the old car jacks ,not the scissor type ,the other type
Prob would be dead easy to make ,steel is not expensive ,mind you the other type in the pic above looks very simple to make
If i (or anyone else) had workshop facilities, either of them would be piss easy , its when you've no pipe benders etc, then you have got to modify the design to make things easier for yerself
Maybe a wee project for sometime in the future ......

You're right that with pipe bending kit it'd be a good home build project.
I have one of these:-

and one of these:-
http://www.abbastands.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=2
that I got for twenty notes the pair so got lucky. Would still like a front triple tree type one though.

if i was ever to do it without a pipe bender , i'd cut straight lengths ,then weld them together,it would still give the same basic shape required
That was another thing i never got round to doing ,ie ,making one of those small front lifts that goes under the sump,..ive even got a couple of good nylon wheels off of an old paddock stand to do it with ,..instead ,i usually just shove the wee trolley jack under the sump once the ABBA ...errr ...type stand is fitted.
This lifts the complete front end and is very stable
You certainly got a bargain at £20 for both stands

Thanks but it's not that important mate, I was only going to pass the link on. You could have made a how to thread when building yours though I was hoping the original plans from this thread may be about so the thread could be back of use. Had this one bookmarked for ages, and now when I go to post the link, the thread is useless. Shame really as it was a good one. Best delete it from my bookmarks now It almost makes me want to go taking images from threads and building my own library so I can replace the images as they get lost.

All I got Carl is this
Think its 2inch box section
The 70 mm at the top refers to the centre of the threaded rod from the top.
