Triumph factory tour today

Post by Kev L »

Went for a tour around the Hinckley factory today. With the negative press around Norton, I was very impressed with the facilities, friendliness of all the staff and the layout of the production line. They kept us all entertained, from me at 60 down to my Granddaughter’s at 7 & 4!
Took some photos as I know we all like piccies!

Beautiful old beasts. Those early flat tankers must have been a joy to ride! Feckin levers everywhere, for everything, and hand change.

That Hurricane was the standout to me as well.
I had a T150V with raygun pipes back in the day.
Same Engune.
Drum brakes were horrible though.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Looks like a great day out Kev. Thanks for sharing
I don't think I've ever seen so many Triumphs without drip trays underneath. :D

 There’s a 1969 T120 Bonneville hanging above the entrance. Almost like a baptism into the greaser movement when it drips a blob of Castrol into your hair. Straight to Ace cafe style! Bet that had to be washed out a few dozen times.
The only bike with a trace of oil underneath it was a 1974 Triumph Daytona. Doesn’t mean the rest don’t leak, just that the Daytona had some oil in it.

Been there myself and well worth the money. Great experience, although I suspect it's rather small compared to some of the overseas plants.

I echo comments about staff friendliness and eagerness to help. I recently took delivery of this, although not much of it made at Hinckley.

(PS. No drip tray yet!) :)

There were 10 of the 765 Moto 2’s awaiting final inspection and one running in the dyno area. Very slick piece of kit.
During the tour the guide made a lot of the patriotic, all bikes are distributed through Hinckley even if assembled elsewhere, supporting British industry etc. Bit surprised to see this today -
