Losing the will to live SORTED

Post by StormyRob »

So

My storm was last started maybe a month ago. She started well and had been sitting for a couple of weeks before that. Started on the button.

Today I went to start her and got one click at the relay.

She just wont start. Can't get more than a single click.

Have tried the following so far

Swapped kill switch
Swapped side stand switch
Swapped reg rec
Swapped solenoid
Swapped starter
Swapped cable from starter to solenoid
Tried jumping off the car (same result with bike battery removed)
Earth is good as it runs direct to battery

Any ideas folks? Getting close to parting her out 😂😂😂

Duff battery? Corroded terminals? Clutch switch? In gear?

If you're getting a click you know that the power is reaching the relay.

So meter at that point to ensure you're getting 12 volts or more.

Relay click tells you that this will either be a voltage or current issue.
A duff battery can give proper volts but insufficient current.

The parts you've swapped over, are they known good?
You can chase your tail all day if swapping a duff battery for another duff battery, or other part.

Try disconnecting the reg rec to see if that has failed and is eating your juice.

Then try using THICK cable to hit the starter terminal with a positive direct from battery using one bolted in terminal and one clamp.
Careful, as even cooker 30amp cable will get hot quite quickly, wear gloves.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Also try the bike in gear to check the engine will turn over, use 2nd or 3rd gear as 1st will most likely lock the back wheel,

Thanks fellas. Took my battery round to another storm owner earlier and his fired up immediately so I know its not my battery. Actually he was a little blown away by how quickly his bike started and is getting a motobatt.

The parts I swapped are not tested. Hard to know if they are good functioning parts.

Just been at it all day and didn't expect it so my head probably wasn't right to be honest. I was hoping.to have the yamamoto system on to hear what they sound like 😂

Dropped my fairings off earlier for a respray which is something nice.

I am now thinking this would be a good time to just tear the whole thing apart and put her back together in the ditchfield frame I have. Having sold quite a few parts and the second bike I do have a bit more space.

Probably won't have time to reassess until the weekend unless my wife is feeling really nice on Wednesday.

Yes I think I am going to take her apart. Again

Bridged the solenoid on the advice of fabio and she started turning over so thats a nice cheap fix. Second was a dud too.
