Clutch Slave rod
Clutch Slave rod
Evenin all!
Just looking at my clutch Slave rod as I was advised to give it a bit of a clean as it was slipping at high rpm in 4,5 & 6.
It's now all clean........
Looking at the slave rod, it has a slight kink in it, is this normal?
I did try a search but didn't find anything!
Cheers

Re: Clutch Slave rod
No, it should be straight.
It's important that you get it the right way round, each end is different.
If you are near London or Sevenoaks you can have one for free.
I have lots.

Re: Clutch Slave rod
Ok, how do I post pictures-my rod is so bent (ooer missus!) it's like it's been twisted along its axis, I'm at a loss as to how the hell that would happen!
Re: Clutch Slave rod
Take picture of wonky rod - get image file on PC - resize to suitable size ( http://www.bricelam.net/ImageResizer/ ) - upload to picture file server - get URL of picture - insert/paste image URL in IMG tagsOk, how do I post pictures

Re: Clutch Slave rod
Never seen one of these bent at all before, and I can't see how you would end up with this result?
It's a mystery.
Did the clutch work ok apart from slipping?
By the way, the bent rod can't cause slipping.
That's usually a result of using fully synthetic oil, or worn plates
But if the po has managed to bend the pushrod, I suppose anything's possible....

Re: Clutch Slave rod
Thanks for the eBay link, ordered-just hope it arrives before my next track day!
Why do you think being that bent wouldn't make the clutch stick and slip a little Tony?

Re: Clutch Slave rod
Because the clutch pushrod can only push
It's the clutch springs that hold the clutch plates together and prevent slip.
Bending a rod can only make it shorter, and so a bent rod cannot promote slip.
Slip only occurs when the engine puts out more power that the clutch is able to transmit, you won't be touching the clutch lever at that point.
To put it another way, the rod only acts to disengage the clutch, your slipping problem is with engagement, not disengagement.
The rod still needs replacing, though.
I have good stocks of clutch spares if it turns into a basket case.

Let's hope fixing it isn't two deer, as the pic suggestsBeef wrote:

Re: Clutch Slave rod
i have just swapped out a bent one. clutch was slipping under high power
Re: Clutch Slave rod
I totally get that Tony-but if the rod isn't returning properly even though you've let go of lever, then perhaps it is keeping the clutch from engaging fully-similar to if I was still holding the lever in slightly?
I'm glad a new one fixed your problem Stuart, hopefully it sorts mine

Re: Clutch Slave rod
Yeah, looking how bent that rod is, I would agree that it would lag behind when the lever was released therefore slow to allow the clutch to return, resulting in clutch slip every time it's used.Beef wrote:I totally get that Tony-but if the rod isn't returning properly even though you've let go of lever, then perhaps it is keeping the clutch from engaging fully-similar to if I was still holding the lever in slightly?
