Sounds like a fuel flow problem. Keep checking your new tank.

Is there petrol getting to the carbs?

Had the airbox off today while it was runing and I could visually see fuel spraying into each carb. This is why I'm kinda leaning towards the carb sync.

Blank off both vacuum take-offs completely.
Don't connect them to the tank, the tap or anything else.
If fuel is flowing to the carbs when the tap is turned on, all should be ok.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

That is exactly how I have it setup. There is no vacuum lines connected to the tank.

puzzling

my thoughts are
make sure all the breather are connected to the air box (i know you have had the box off again but worth checking)
i noticed the choke cable was really stiff, might be worth checking out to see if the slides / cable is sticking
check to see if the carbs are still sitting in the rubbers

was it any different when you took the air box off? if there was no change it could indicate an air leak

there is always a chance that during the tank and tap change, that dirt has got in (did the tap have a filter on the tank side)

if you get really stuck and have to start taking the carbs off, i could alway let you borrow a set to do some swapnostics

Any excuse for a longer ride. I dont think that is needed just yet. There are a few other simple things I need to check first. Pluss, unless you intend on coming by after 3pm, I'll be asleep.

My neighbor, Chris will help out to sus out the problem once the kiddos are asleep.

It lives! It just needed to be run for a bit. Sounds like a bag of hammers but thats because of the stock exhaust. Just need to sort out the turn signals and then its off to get an MOT.

Also, is there a known issue with the radiater fan hitting the fan shroud?

Only if the centre of the fan is worn causing it to wobble as it spins. Swap it over with the one on the other bike. The more common problem is catching the connector block at the front side of the rad when putting the fairing back on causing the fan to not switch on.

Good news on the bike running. A good run to clear all the cobwebs out is what is needed now.

The other bike and just about every other extra piece has been sold and picked up. So no swaps available -_-

I'll take it for a nice long run after the MOT and registration is complete. For now, im stuck with riding it around my housing estate.

As a side note, is there meant to be a small amount of play in the steering stem while riding? I may not have done the nuts up correctly when putting it all back together.

You should have no play in the steering and it should move freely from side to side. That will fail the MOT with excess play. Nip it up a bit and see if you can eliminate any play. Are they taper or roller bearings. Tapers can take a bit of fiddling to get right.

Stock 1998 bearings. There isn't much, just when going from acceleration to stopping. And I just blue Loctited the top triple and handle bolts.

grab the forks when it is up on the with the front wheel in the air. if they rock back and forth and movement is in the head bearings you can adjust. under the top yoke there is a nut that is locked and held with a tab. .... after adjustment the back and forth play should gone but you should be able to rotate from lock to lock without any notchyness or stiffness.

I have several sets of head stock bearing kicking about if it aint right
