The bikes running mint. I've been pulling wheel stands from the lights all week (even with my extra winter bulk, lol).

Just wondering...

...is it absolutely necesary to retract the plunger on the CCT before you remove it?

Only reason I ask is because last time I did it I found it to be a bloody pain in the A**E !!

Fitting my APE's this week hopefully... & I can't wait to be rid of the Honda Achilles Heel !!!

No, it's not necessary to retract the original CCT's plungers before removing them :!: IMHO you're better off not retracting them fully before removal, especially if you're going to re-use them, as all you are doing is putting unnecessary strain on the spring :!: If you don't have a key to fit in the end so they can be locked before removing just put a small slotted screwdriver in the end and hold the worm/screw where it is. All you are doing is taking the load off the plunger from the spring, so that it's easier to remove the fixing bolts and the CCT itself :!:

Might sound like a daft question but you mentioned re-fitting the metal caps on the plungers, do you have to fit them on the the ape tentioners too??

Cheers,
Jim.

No Jim,
the caps don't fit on the APE tensioners but don't worry the tip of the tensioner is metal anyway and slightly larger than the Honda one if my memory serves me correctly.

b8stard inspection centre cap. So bloody soft. Thing is ive had it off before when i fitted a new front oem tensioner. I came to fit my manual ones today and rounded the b8stard thing off!

New one needed if anyone has one lol. Or i'll just order a new one from david silvers.

Thanks Chris

Followed the procedure when I fitted my manual tensioners...

Don't know whether it is just my bike but there seems a lot of safe adjustment between the cam chain rattling and the chain chirping :S
I think it was 2~3 full turns :S

I adjusted mine by backing them off until the cam chain rattled and turned them back in until it stopped and then 1/2 a turn further...
No rattles at all and the engine does seem to pull better now...

But most of all, I have peace of mind that the damn tensioners aren't going to fail at any minute :P

Thanks for the expert instructions Chris,
I followed them to the letter and had no problems at all, thanks.
I’m sure there were photo’s with the instructions at one time.

Thanks again.
