Gap under seat

Post by popularh14 »

Had a fair bit of rain here in West Wales of late and have noticed that my toolbag has been getting very waterlogged under the seat. On inspecting the seat I noticed quite a gap between the seat and the tail unit which looks like it will feed water in, especially with the bike tilted to the left on the side stand.

<a href="http://s1156.photobucket.com/user/popul ... e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p57 ... frpgre.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_13661_zpselfrpgre.jpg"/></a>

Anyone else encountered this and found a cure?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Thanks for the steer Wicky - used a combination of things which have definitely improved matters if not completely solved them.

Jacked up the tail unit using a couple of tap washers under the rear screws/bolts, removed the hooks and grab-handle and restored the seat hump for when I've not got a bag bungied on the back. Sorted!!

Little aside - what's the difference between a screw and a bolt? I always thought a bolt had a nut that it screwed into, captive or otherwise but my Haynes manual calls the fasteners at the back of the tail unit screws!! Something to do with having a crosshead in the cap so you need to use a screwdriver rather than a socket or allen key??
Answers on a postcard....... :confused
