Was just about to order one of these buggers as they looked like a nice bright bulb when I noticed they're not road legal!!

Anyone had any experience with them and, if so, are they worth the risk of getting pulled over by the old bill?

No it's not worth it. Get some standard philips Osram bulbs. If these are the ones that give of the Bluish light then plod will take a very dim view of that (no pun intended) even more so than non road legal noisy cans as they will see your Blue light as impersonating them which is a naughty one in the eyes of the law. You know the guys that makes the law that like looking at kiddie porn and then tell us what is right and wrong and what we are allowed to do and then send their slaves out to make sure we abide to them 
You would be better off with the non road legal Led bulbs that are super bright, just don't get Blue.
