Hello All, I've just bought a VTR! I intend to use it at Castle Combe track days and general riding. i've read just enough to be 'dangerous' so i may need you guys to keep me right!
Test ride says
turn in is slow and the brakes aren't great, plus the vibration was more than i expected.

i've ordered a 4mm spacer, i'll pull the brakes apart and ensure sound and bleed, are braided hose recommended?
vibration - i'll check the exhaust system is mounted properly and check the carb balance - anything else to consider?

First impressions though are for a £1400 bike it's brilliant!!

Hi and welcome. Certainly looks as if it's had caring previous owner(s).

Like the wheels and the clean sump area is always a good sign. Front tyre looks good, but a 'round' profile rather than triangular. Can't see properly of course, but that might be a turn in culprit.

I'd suggest cans, as the standard ones weigh lots.
A quick action throttle will help on track, plus a decent shock if funds allow
Another easy win is a lithium battery.

And, obviously, sprockets to suit the track.

Looks almost too good to track but at that price who cares.
You might also want to check the carb vent hoses. If they are still tucked into the carb chassis/frame you can get flooding on the over run if they aren't hanging free and then it stumbles coming back on the power out of the bends

the tyres are indeed sport touring Pirelli of some sort that I'll use while i learn the bike and change fairly soon.

Suspension passed the bounce test, linkage is free and on a test ride didn't dive alarmingly, but it had new brake pads and wasn't great so not braking so hard. I'll bed the pads, bleed them and see what's needed.

For a 22 year old (I'm allowed to ride) she does indeed look great! MOT check shows shes a garage queen and has only done around 3000km not miles per year for ages. i half expect carb glazing issues...

for track use. heavier front springs and a re valve, rear shocks arnt that great but you can live with them, blade/cbr600f4i calipers and master are good ,nice set of can and a lighweight flywheel and you are good to go
