I swapped my zx9 b4 model for a firestorm.I prefer the firestorm but that's only my opinion. You will find a vast difference. As said try to get a ride on one first.Welcome to the forum you can't get a better bunch of blokes always very helpful.Just be aware of the cct's and r/r problems.
SO WHEN DOES THIS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER KICK IN

Thanks for the warm welcome, I did have a go on a work mates vtr, but sadly he sold his as he couldn't get it running right after problems with the cam chain adjusters

Are there any common issues with the vtr's I should look out on?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Welcome aboard buddy, you will find the Firestorm feels a lot smaller than the ZX9

yep, welcome - as said best refuge for all things Storm and other life related obsessions

hope the search goes well, colour is a key thing with a Storm and provides an insight into character - beware blue and teal
