Previous owners...gotta love them

Post by Shinyharley »

So as I begin to examine my new VTR project I'm finding the usual mix of surprises.

Apparently holding the tail light on with a single decking screw bodged with a washer and a bit of rubber tube is acceptable. I wonder what the part number for that is?

On a brighter note MCCT'S have been done already, albeit with a debate in the other place about the correct positioning of the lock nut.

R/R has also been replaced, but I have no idea if Tour Max ones are reliable. It does have fins, so at least it will be able to swim in this weather.

I've also established it had new headraces and fork oil a year ago.

Onwards and upwards. I predict bashed knuckles and swearing as I head for carb removal (sounds like a very extreme faddy diet).

Have a good one y'all

Normally two screws that hold the rear light in which go into the two nut spring clips with a thread that are pushed into the internal ribs on the inside of the tail piece on rubber mounts through top hats. What happens is that clips get lost / plastic ribs gets broken from age/vibration and it ends up bodgered.

Get part no.s from here https://www.bike-parts-honda.com/honda- ... 1997/11510 (choose your year and bookmark for reference)

Aftermarket Spring clips can be got from Halfords / ebay a lot cheaper than OEM Honda. But if you want original get the part no. & put that into David Silvers 'find by part no.' https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk

Thanks Wicky. I was shopping about 7am :D

Today I've had the joy of discovering what isn't holding the headlight and one of the radiators on!

You know that feeling when you start something and begin to wonder why....

Headlight should be attached onto front fairing through screws* into brass inserts moulded into the headlight mounts in the fairing surround.

*I've used allen headed replacements.
