New Storm!

Post by Kev L »

So how’s Ophelia been treating you guys in Ireland, Wales, South West?
Did you get severely blown all day, and not in a good way!
In all seriousness hope everybody is ok.

A very strange morning and quite windy, the sky was all sort of orange/yellow, never seen it like that before.
As the day has gone on the wind is getting stronger, heard of some tree's coming down. It's rattling the roof at work now, but no rain and the sun is out.

Evidentially the yellow/orange filter on the sun is Saharan sand n crap whipped up by the storm.

Hurricane

Thats the word that is being used...as that is technically what it is

However...the winds are not that bad. Let's be honest. The UK suffers 60 to 80 winds now and again. However all of a sudden its called a Hurricane so everyone gets the day off work! 8O

I appreciate two people have died..as trees have fallen on cars etc. But that can happen in any storm and trees falling is not a new thing.

I think the "Hurricane" is fine. It is windy but that is about it. A car has not come through my front window just yet

Pah ! I remember the Great Storm of 1987...

When Sevenoaks became Oneoaks over night...

TBH I was away that night with work & saw it all on the news at breakfast time... Wasn't the slightest bit windy where I was that night...

I had to ride to work on the bike to get my wages as IIRC it was a Friday. Remember leaning at some odd angles to counter the wind.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

How very good of you to ask Kev

Not too bad down this end, winds today around 70mph. I think we were rather fortunate compared to others on the news tonight.

Did you get any of it Kev where you are :?:

Nothing to speak of Chris, little windy but not enough to damage anything. Although it did blow the lid up on my bin! Oh my god, start a collection! :D
We did have the yellow/orange/red filter on the sun, but it was T shirt weather, so very pleasant.
Hope whoever cops it next gets away with it lightly.

Starting a collection of bin lids should be okay Kev, so long as it's not green wheelie bins, as Mac might get a bit jealous
Glad to hear you missed most of it, it was warm here as well, quite odd for October,

I was sleeping in portacabin on a mortuary building sight, in Kingston on Thames. Didn't think much about through the night, didn't really notice it to be honest. However, when i got outside in the morning the place was trashed. Now power, not telephones (remember the wired ones), trees down everywhere and eerily like an deserted city.
