Speeding...

Post by jchesshyre »

I've just received a NIP for 74 in a 60...on the afternoon of the day I got my bike back

That is just within the threshold for a speed awareness course, so fingers crossed.

It was on a bit of the A5 where it's single carriageway but two lanes going uphill (the way I was heading). I was concentrating so much on the overtake that I never even saw the bloody camera van :Argue 1:

Did you receive the NIP within 14 days of the offence?
If you don't try you never know if you can do it.

Yes

I have requested to see the photos, just in case, although I can't think of anything that would make it invalid going from them.

Ask for proof of calibration on the day of offence!! If they can't provide it they can't enforce the offence!!

Do you know if you can do this before it goes to court?

Is there not an appeal section on your paperwork?

No, so far I've only had the Notice of Intended Prosecution which asks me to identify who was riding my bike at the time.

I assume the Fixed Penalty Notice which should follow once I've replied will have an appeal section.

I've read a lot of conflicting stuff about whether or not they're obliged to proove that the equipment was calibrated :?

I contacted them as i thought you were allowed 10% + 2 mph which would make 35 in a 30 okay.I was told that as from last April there was zero tolerance and you can be done for 1mph over the limit.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I'd always assumed it was that you had to be doing *less than* 10% + 2...

I've just thought, about this ticket and the fact that I never spotted the van...when I got pulled over by an unmarked car in December and given a Section 59 warning (which was him giving me a big break given the speed I was doing) he said 'you know they're using camera motorbikes in North Wales now as well as vans? You'll never spot them so watch out!' I'd actually forgotten about this so maybe this is what got me here :redface

Pain in the behind are these Cameras.
Unless your looking at Banning speeds, take the course if you can. North of the wall we do not have that option, it's straight to points.
Also Fines are now all changed, no more fixed amounts, it's all about % of how much you earn.......
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time

I was snapped early one morning at the same speed/limit on an empty A road. Ho hum, but at least I have the course in September and no points. I must remember to keep looking down at my speedo at all times and plough through any errant pedestrians who might dart out.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
