Firestorm Face book page

Post by AMCQ46 »

Ok, so I broke my own rules and joined Facebook ..... Only so I could follow the travel stories and photos of my 2 girls as they go round Asia ... But I have also joined the firestorm page because Marty pulled me in...

And I know a few of you are active on there as well as here, but is it just me being an old git who thinks it is not as good as the forum?
It could be the unstructured format that encourages people to just jump in in the middle and miss the original question, or perhaps it's some of the crap advise that people are throwing about, but it's like a kids playground and I struggle to understand why people use it instead of joining in here?

And also there are some people that post about every thing they do that I have had to un follow them ... A that includes a couple who I know through this forum!

So a couple of questions:
1) what is it that face book offers that the forum doesn't. Is it that all your other virtual friends can't see the likes and comments and photos? Or is it easier to use
2) am I alone in these thoughts

Facebook is for airing dirty laundry in a very public fashion, oft interspersed with unwanted, uneducated trolling.

Forums tend to be for the more discerning Firestorm owner :D

Generally, if people have a serious interest they'll be on a forum. I'm on Facebook but haven't even looked for a group because I know from previous experience that you don't get the same level of knowledge and experience as you do here.

1/ As far as I can see all it offers over the forum is its easier to veiw/use on a smart phone... like a lot of things these days everyone asumes that you have a smart phone/tablet or the latest flash bang gizmo...IMO it's why you get all the ' jump in in the middle and miss the original question ' crap...

That & people just being plane lazy that can't be arsed to scroll through & read everything...

Personaly I like to type out a really long answer to everything just to wind them all up....

' it's like a kids playground and I struggle to understand why people use it instead of joining in here ' Yep, for some reason it's full of knobs who think the best thing is to bounce it off the limiter in the garage so they can shoot flames from their dan moto cans...

The latest thing is fitting a two into one exhaust, asking for advice then ignoring said advice that it will loose power on the grounds that it looks better...Now I woudnt mind but there have been three seperate feeds on this subject in the last couple of weeks...Which is the big problem with FB in my eyes...Try finding something posted from last week...

FB is a streaming flow of consciousness in a forever present, just like popping into the pub to dip in & catch up and chat, or even sit in the corner and people watch - This forum combines that aspect but with the addition of a library / knowledgebase of old codgers sitting in the corner with a pint of mild who've been there and done that...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

The only reason i am on certain pages regarding VTR's is looking to see if any one local is organising local rideouts.I don't really care what half these muppets are doing to their bikes,or what they have had for breakfast or how high they can lift their front wheel. If i have a question about Firestorms i always revert back to the forum.

You've touched a nerve with me here, no you're not on your own, I reluctantly joined for the very same reasons as yourself, but I must admit I hate facebook with a passion, like yourself I know people on there, both on and off this forum who put stuff on there that is grossly exaggerated, and sometimes utter rubbish.
I can see a use for it where families who are living apart can keep in contact with what's going on, but on the whole, in my opinion facebook is 85% full of sad people living imaginary lives with nothing better to do than post up, or read malicious, useless, idol gossip, If some of those people were so active as they would like us to believe they wouldn't have time to be on facebook so much in the first place.
Plus I don't understand why you would want everyone knowing what you are up to, but then maybe that's just me, because at the end of the day I like to live a private life, and spend my time enjoying it, not living it on a screen.
Regards the forum, I just hope that facebook doesn't destroy this forum like it has done to many others, I always use this forum, or phone one of the forum members if I need help.
looking at some of the rubbish advise, and false information I've seen given on facebook I would never dream of looking on there for help.

i aways said i would never join it but i gave in.. its handy to use from your fone and its good for finding parts but thats about it. the forum still beats it hands down because if you do ask a question on facecake, you come back the next day and its buried by dozens of posts most of which are bull..
on the forum you get answers that make sense from people you know even if you have never met them.

and as above i hope it doesnt kill the forum which i dont think it will as folk on here have more of a connection than having(friends) on facebook you have never met and prob never will...
the older i get,the faster i was

Facebook is a showoff forum for those with little taste. Blue screens, cheap cans and daft questions.
I've stopped looking, it just irritates me.

Darwinian evolution theory will prevent most of the worst offenders from staying on bikes for very long anyway.
It's full of people who are just like I was when I was 18.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I joined FB a few months ago and the vtr page a month back
I seen a set of clocks for sale contacted the man and sent the money
Loads of stories later the clocks and other parts haven't arrived
This wouldn't happen on the forum
told you not to but oh no you knew better
