Changing from clip ons to normal bars?

Post by NZSpokes »

I think I have to accept Im not as young as I was. I love my Hawk to bits but it kills me to ride it. My legs and hip scream after a long ride.

So much so Ive been avoiding riding it and been riding my 1200 Bandit which is boring as butter but I can ride it all day in comfort.

I dont want to sell the Hawk so am thinking among other things fitting normal bars.

What are the difficulties in doing this? I have a top clamp with mounts. Are the cables and lines long enough?

Hi

I have a CNC topyoke and Renthals fitted, They are superb. However i fitted new hoses and trimmed the fairing very slightly. Well worth the mod though.I rode for 560 miles in a day last year and they were great . I have pics if you need any. i aint young either!

Done mine too about 2 years back and never looked back. You will be better off with new brake and clutch lines that are longer as it will give you the slack to play with.

Did you need to trim for the bottles to clear?

My brake lines are off a 900 Hornet so to long for the Hawk anyway. So the electrics were ok?

The bottles will clear it was the switch gear that needed to be trimmed for.

I had to add 2" to the horn wiring but the aftermarket good ridge hoses that I had on it were ling enough.

just trim the fairing with a dremil or the like. you can fit either low risers or high riser bars, obviously high risers require more trimming. some have changed resivours to keep them lower also.
standard length hoses fit for break and clutch. horn wires were all I had to extend.
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time
