SOMETHING FOR MARTIN FROM ALL OF US

Post by cheekykev »

Hi all, me, cheekyads and cheekysue have come up with an idea, which we’d like to share with you all, just to see what the general opinion is.
Has most of you know Martin was a major player in the Operation Storm (Rhayder) annual VTR meet up that we have every year, he always talked about it and always looked forward to it.
With this in mind we thought we would see about buying, making, whatever, a picnic bench, putting a plaque on it and placing it at the camp site at Rhayder where we always stay, all in memory of Martin, the plaque doesn’t have to say too much, in my opinion just Martins logo with the date would be enough, similar to the stickers that are being done, I personally think anything more would deter people from using it, which is not what we, or Martin would want, he would want people to use it, sit and have a beer, eat your kebab, leave your helmet and gloves on there while you chat telling endless stories etc :Beer Popcorn:
I will phone the camp site later today to see if they’re ok with this idea, can’t really see there being a problem because they already have picnic benches, in fact they might be really happy about it because the last time we were there I’m sure the benches they had were looking a bit worn out.
Just in case anyone is wondering why a picnic bench and not a ordinary bench, we think a picnic bench is the right thing for Martin :D
Please post up, maybe you have a better idea, come on don’t be shy, air your views.
I’m sure a good picnic bench plus a plaque would only come to about £250/£300 so If most of the members on here chipped in just one or two pounds each we’d soon have enough, maybe even enough for two, or one very good quality one, whatever you all think.
I’d rather lots of members contribute a little than a few members contribute a lot, this would mean more to Martin, it’s not about the money, it’s about the numbers, If it came to it me and a few members would happily pay for it ourselves.
First off I need to know if people are interested, so come on post up

Oh by the way, thanks to everyone for turning up yesterday

sounds like a great idea.....
depending on the amount raised, i'd say one good quality pinic bench is the best option, something thats going to last for many years, i also agree with the simple plaque....

Yea ,nice idea, I also like the idea of making the bench/picknick table ourselves(bit more personal) I think.....either way
