name that film

Post by boz »

Cant remember the title or all of the plot but remember this movie from the 70's and its bugging me.
Basically there are these 2 nerdy guys in a hot rod type old american car racing their way across america. Every time they race they take off the wipers to save weight. The car looks like a 1930' type saloon. They pick up a bird for the ride. They meet a bullshitting bloke in a modern souped up car, always bullshitting about what he's done etc. I think they eventually race and the nerds win. Thats what i can remember so if anyone can fill in with more info, it would be a big help. I reckon this film is a cult movie now.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Its "Two Lane Blacktop"
Don't think I have seen that one, it was released the year I was born. I see there's a 55 Chevy in it. Back in the late 80's I had the pleasure of fitting a car audio system to a 57 Chevy. Beautiful it was. Red and White in colour and very well built. Didn't get to drive that one though. :(

The 55 in TLB is one of those left over from American Graffiti. The driver is James Taylor and the mechanic was Brian (I think, but one of the beach boys brothers anyway!) Wilson. The driver they raced was Warren Oates.
If you like those road movie type tings try Hot Rod, Californian Kid & Graffiti. Don't expect to walk away fulfilled and with a new found lust for life but they are entertaining, If only to see some big names before that made it.
